By Jay Miller

It's officially spring and even though the weather in your part of the country might not quite be warm and sunny, it's definitely time to start planning out your new outdoor house projects. By getting a jump start on those outside projects you'll have more free time during the summer months to sit back and enjoy the warm weather without a lot of work.

Spring is the perfect time of the year to start a lot of outside projects that involve plants because it's the wet spring and damp early summer months that contribute the most to helping plants grow and turning your yard green. You may also want to start working on some of the exterior projects around your home while the weather is still mild and not too hot to be outside in the heat all day. Here are some great home exterior projects for spring:

Inspect and Clean Gutters: The gutters of your house probably took a beating through the winter months. Ice and water and all sorts of debris from late fall can do quite a number on gutters and if you haven't replaced them in a while. You might may want to check them over for cracks or weak points. A leaky gutter could sending water against your home and that can cause wood to rot around your roof line.

Planting Grass: The spring is an excellent time to plant new grass seed for your lawn because it's when a lot of part of the country get the most rain and the weather is still cool enough for grass to grow quickly. The summer heat can sometimes burn new grass, no matter how much you try to water it. Learning how to plant grass is less of a science than it is an imprecise art form. Not all methods will work for all situations, but most grasses at least require good soil and good water.

Build New Flowerbeds: If you didn't plant bulbs in the fall then now's the time to take advantage of all the sales on spring plants. It's also a good time to plan out your flower beds. If you're going make a flower bed then you might want to start measuring and buying materials now to take advantage of good weather and enjoy your flowers all summer.

Don't put off summer home improvement projects until May or June. Start taking advantage of the sale prices now and get to work outside! When the dog days of summer hit and the thermometer reaches into the high 90s, you'll be happy you got some much done in these early spring months and you can just sit back and relax!
